Introducing RETOUCH NEXUS Networks

RETOUCH NEXUS is at the forefront of water governance research, bringing together the Water Governance 2027 Synergy Group, the NEXUSNET Cost Action, the PRIMA program, and a cluster of EU sister projects. These networks collaborate to foster sustainable water management, policy coherence, and innovative solutions to global water challenges.

Water Governance 2027 Synergy Group

A Collaborative Effort for Sustainable Water Management

The Water Governance 2027 Synergy Group is a coalition of three European projects—InnWater, GOVAQUA, and RETOUCH NEXUS—funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programmes. This group focuses on enhancing water governance, economic and financial sustainability of water systems, and fostering circular systems. By leveraging the strengths of each project, the synergy group aims to create impactful and sustainable water management solutions.

Through collaborative efforts, the Water Governance 2027 Synergy Group addresses critical water governance challenges, ensuring the efficient use of resources and promoting environmental sustainability. The group’s initiatives are designed to support policy development, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of innovative water management practices across Europe.

NEXUS NET COST ACTION

The NEXUSNET Cost Action is a pivotal initiative aimed at fostering policy coherence and enhancing biophysical interactions within the water, energy, and food sectors. By bringing together researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders, NEXUSNET strives to support the transition towards a circular and low-carbon economy in Europe. The network’s efforts are focused on job creation, improving wellbeing, and promoting environmental sustainability through comprehensive, multi-scale testing of the Nexus concept.

PRIMA Foundation

The PRIMA Foundation, headquartered in Barcelona, plays a crucial role in advancing research and innovation projects that promote the sustainable use of natural resources, economic growth, and stability in the Mediterranean region. As a non-profit organization established under Spanish private law, PRIMA is dedicated to fostering collaborative efforts that address pressing environmental and socio-economic challenges.

Collaborative Research for a Secure Water EUrope

WE-ACT project

Coordinated by the Technical University of Munich

The EU-funded WE-ACT project brings together industrial, political, governmental, technical and scientific leaders from Europe and Central Asia. The aim is to introduce a state-of-the-art decision support system for water allocation, promoting inclusive and forward-looking planning that takes account of climate risks. WE-ACT aims to optimise water allocation regimes, improve water policies, strengthen water valuation and foster stakeholder engagement for sustainable water resources management.

GoNEXUS project

Coordinated by Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV)

As populations and economies continue to grow, the demand for water, energy and food is set to increase as well. The effects of climate change will only put further strain on natural resources, and life as we know it will be left hanging in the balance. Over the next 4 years, GoNEXUS will work to re-balance water, food and energy ecosystems to maximise our planet’s environmental security. Through in-depth case studies and scenarios, GoNEXUS will create a future-proof toolbox and a framework to manage the WEFE nexus.

TRANSCEND project

Coordinated by the Universidad de Salamanca (USAL)

The EU-funded TRANSCEND project develops Transformational Adaptation Policies (TAPs) to address water scarcity and achieve sustainable, equitable economic growth amid deep uncertainty in seven river basins.
Involving 15 institutions globally, TRANSCEND aims to create an innovative ecosystem for effective water management built on three pillars: a Knowledge Network through stakeholder engagement, an Actionable Modeling Suite for policy guidance, and an Accounting and Monitoring Toolbox for implementation and adjustment. With this holistic approach, TRANSCEND aims to ensure water scarcity management through innovation, equity, and sustainability.
