In October 2025, the Energy and Water Agency (EWA) hosted a new RETOUCH NEXUS Stakeholder Project Meeting in Malta, bringing together a wide range of participants – including NGOs, public entities, and sectoral experts – to advance the conversation on integrated water and energy management.

The workshop focused on deepening stakeholder engagement through the practical application of the NEXUS Ranking System, a key analytical tool developed to evaluate how “NEXUS-friendly” management plans are. This system supports decision-makers in assessing the extent to which water, energy, food, and ecosystems considerations are integrated into planning processes.

During the breakout sessions, participants applied the NEXUS Ranking System to the Programme of Measures within Malta’s 3rd River Basin Management Plan, promoting collaboration and hands-on reflection on the country’s water and environmental priorities. The activity not only fostered multi-sectoral dialogue but also provided valuable insights into the potential of Nexus-based evaluation for national policy development.
