Slovak Case study
South-West Region of Slovakia
Explore our comprehensive approach to enhancing water security, combating desertification, and preserving biodiversity in the south-west region of Slovakia.
Case Study Overview
Discover Slovakia's Challenges
Improving water retention, irrigation systems, and landscape structure in southwest Slovakia directly reduces flood and drought risks, ensuring water security and biodiversity. These are major issues identified by government and scientific documents. Land fragmentation is a significant problem hindering water retention infrastructure. Land consolidation, part of official policies, is necessary to reduce the high costs of implementing water retention facilities.
Our Methodology
Addressing Water Challenges in South-West Slovakia
The RETOUCH NEXUS project is making significant strides in enhancing water retention capacity and improving irrigation systems. By addressing the critical issues of water scarcity and land fragmentation, we are ensuring a sustainable and secure water future for the south-west part of Slovakia. Our efforts are not only reducing the risks of floods and droughts but also contributing to the protection of biodiversity and the overall health of the ecosystem.
Through a combination of innovative methodologies and collaborative efforts, we are implementing effective water management strategies that benefit both the environment and the local communities. Our project highlights the importance of integrated water and soil management plans, which are essential for sustainable agriculture and living. By focusing on the synergies between water security, soil health, and biodiversity, we are creating a resilient landscape that can withstand the challenges posed by climate change.
