Come celebrate World Water Day 2025 ‘Save Our Glacier’ with the RETOUCH NEXUS project!*

Every year, World Water Day (on March, 22) reminds us of the vital role that water plays in our lives, our ecosystems, and our future. This year, the theme is “Glacier Preservation”, a call to action to protect the world’s frozen freshwater reserves, which are melting at an alarming rate due to climate change.

Glaciers are nature’s vaults, storing nearly 70% of the planet’s freshwater. From the Himalayas to the Alps, these ice giants supply water to billions of people, sustaining drinking water supplies, agriculture, hydropower, and biodiversity. But as global temperatures rise, glaciers are shrinking, making the water cycle more unpredictable and extreme.

This rapid loss of ice is causing:
Water insecurity – Changing meltwater patterns are threatening the reliability of water sources for people and industries.
Floods and droughts – Excessive glacier melt leads to devastating floods, while long-term retreat contributes to water shortages.
Rising sea levels – As glaciers and ice caps shrink, coastal communities face increasing risks.
Ecosystem disruption – Wildlife and vegetation that depend on stable water flows are struggling to adapt.

Why Glacier Preservation Matters for Water Security

At RETOUCH NEXUS, we understand that glacier preservation is a survival strategy. The water we rely on today is shaped by the glaciers of yesterday. If we do not act now, the water crisis will intensify, affecting people, economies, and ecosystems worldwide.

To tackle this challenge, we must:
🔹 Reduce greenhouse gas emissions – Urgent action is needed to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C and slow glacier retreat.
🔹 Strengthen water governance – Sustainable management of meltwater is crucial to adapt to changing water availability.
🔹 Foster international cooperation – Cross-border collaboration is key to protecting shared water resources and ensuring climate resilience.

A Call to Action: Let’s Protect Our Frozen Water Resources

This World Water Day, let’s commit to putting glacier preservation at the heart of our strategies for tackling climate change and water security. Every drop of water matters, and every action counts.

Join the conversation and share your thoughts: How can we better protect our glaciers and secure water for future generations?
